7/4/2010 Au Petit Bistrot Paris France

we had a great day in paris today. at 3:30 we met up with our friends linda, moss, and their 2 boys at the catacombs. it was a fun walk through them together (see the travel blog for the post about the day itself @ camelland-travel.blogspot.com.

moss (i think) found this area of town where there were supposed to be a lot of little cafes, so after a refreshment at a pub outside the catacombs we hopped on the subway and got off at the censier daubenton Mo stop. a couple blocks later and we found ourselves on rue  Moufftard. there were indeed quite a few eateries. not sure who said "this one" but this is the one we chose. Au Petit Bistrot.

it was quite a nice little place. they had 2 menus to choose from, place a number of carte items. the menu was 3 items for either 9 or 14 euro. i must give a big thank you to moss and griffin for helping me with the pics.

matt's 1st course:
6 escargots de bourgogne
(snails in basil and butter)

we've had escargot a few times, and while fine, we've never been bowled over by them. they taste like whatever it is they're cooked in. but these were fantastic. best escargot i've tasted, and matt agrees.

linda's 1st course:
chevre chaud sur toasts et lit de salade
(warm goat cheese on a bed of salad)

well i'm not seeing this on my pic of the menu but it's a tuna salad.

my 1st course:
soupe a l'oignon gratinee
(french onion soup)

since we're in france shouldn't this be 'onion soup'? just sayin'. it was pretty good, but i like mine better. however it was super hot all the way to the very last slurp.

griffin's 1st course:
potage de legumes "maison"
(vegetable soup)

linda's 2nd course:
boulette de boeuf roties
(roasted beef meatballs with beans and potato)

miles's 1st course:
pasta with ragout ( i think) or a meat sauce anyway

griffin's 2nd course:
brochette de porc marinee aux herbes
(herb marinated pork brochette)

matts' 2nd course:
travers de porc croustillant au miel et epices
(crispy pork ribs with honey and spices)

matt's dessert:
creme caramel
(cream caramel - duh... :-P )

miles's dessert:
fromage blanc au miel
(creamy cottage cheese with honey)

griffin's dessert:
chevre ou camembert ou coulommiers
(chevre and camembbert with columns - in this case baguette rounds)

linda and moss's dessert:

creme de marrons, chintilly
(chestnut puree with chantilly (sweetened whipped cream))

my dessert:
crepe (glace vanille, sauce, chocolat, chantilly)
(crepe with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, and chantilly)

wow. best crepe ever.

it was a great dinner - in no small part due to great company! if i made an error or they have anything to add to the commentary of this post i invite them to please do so. :-)

miles, moss, matt, (people at table behind us), linda and griffin. good food, good friends, good times. as linda recently reminded me: "we'll always have paris".

Coulommiers is a cheese as well, one of the choices. Looks like the person chose Camembert; baguette is always served with the cheese course!
