tonight we tried a new place for dinner. it was a friend's birthday.
chef jerry traunfeld, formerly of the herbfarm, opened his own place on capital hill earlier this year. he spent some time in india and decided to bring the spices and concept of serving style to poppy (tulip).
shared a turkish delight: sweet but not quite as 'alcoholy' as was expected
finlandia, orange curacao, maraschino, lime, pomogranite
to start:
bollinger 1999 grand avee champagne
spice crispies - indian spice trail mix
eggplant fries with sea salt and honey - oh my goodness
spice bread, golden beet and blue cheese salad - don't remember
salt cod fritters with smoked paprika aioli - not so much
wagyu beef tongue with potato pancake adn horseradish (hot) - really like this
dungeness crab with hearts of palm - didn't get any
for the main course we each had a thali:
wine: white burgundy, or chardoney - no idea what it was
this was a large tray with many little dishes of the following
green garlic soup (hot) -very good
blood orange, taggia olive and endive salad - gotta love blood oranges!
broccoli salad with toasted sesame and seville orange - didn't even get to it!
black cod with gingered carrot sauce, fried shallot and cashews - oh my goodness
tandoor roasted quail with pumpkin seed sauce - fantastic!
curry leaf cabbage - oh my, this was fantastic! spicey!
nettle fritter in yogurt sauce - loved it, maybe heavy on the yogurt tho
baked faro with tomato and prune - was surprised i didn't care for this as much as i thought i would
shaved burdock pickle - didn't get to it
zaatar naan
for dessert we all had coffee and matt and i shared a (sweet) thali
which consisted of:
ginger cookies - brought it home
kaffir-lemongrass brulee - good
malt chocolate ice cream - good
poppycock - think crackerjacks with indian spicing
salt caramel - grought it home
passionfruit gummys - brought it home
