8/11/2010 Riscky's BBQ Ft Worth TX

as far as i'm concerned there's only 1 riscky's. it's the one in the historic stockyards. They have everything there - ribs, sandwhiches, pork or beef. we go there for the ribs. it's also a fun place to catch up with friends you haven't seen in several years.

if you've never been, they don't even try to give you napkins. there's a roll of paper towels on every table. you get good and messy. at least they give you straws so you don't have to worry about not being able to hang onto your glass without dropping it.

it was too hot or i might've suggested sitting outside.

matt and dad chose the same thing only with different sides.

"all you can eat beef ribs $9.95"
"humongous beef ribs rubbed with famous "riscky dust" and smoked slowly over a wood fire. served with texas toast, texas size slice of onion, polish pickle, jalapeno pepper and your choice of potato salad, coleslaw, red beans, onion rings or homestyle fries. no sharing or to go boxes please"

for those of you who don't know what texas toast is, it's bread that has been sliced to the thickness of about 2 regular slices. matt chose something not listed on the menu but was an offering and that was the fried okra. he hates okra. so i'm like "why did you order that?!?" his answer actually made a lot of sense - wish i had thought of it. he ordered it so he wouldn't be tempted to eat it and could focus on eating the ribs instead!

angie went with the smallest meal of the night -

"riscky's famous beef brisket sandwich"

i don't remember if it was the sliced or chopped beef, they offer both.

dad showing off the texas toast. he had potato salad for his side.

he and matt went back for 2nds which was 4 more ribs

i had the plate dinner. i should've had the basket, it was smaller. but we figured with the cost difference it was a better deal and i could take my leftovers home :-)

"riscky's famous pork spare ribs"

"jim riscky's personal favorite! meaty pork spare ribs are rubbed with "riscky dust" and smoked slowly over a wood fire until tender"

i had cole slaw and onion rings. i actually got 3 sides, but did a dbl on the slaw. i inadvertantly did matt's okra trick with them. if it's good slaw i like it, but i've only had good slaw a couple times so i knew i wouldn't be eating much of it. the rings however....

finger-licking-good! oh wait, that's someplace else isn't it?
